Wish List for Books

These are some of the books I wish I could obtain. But for some reason or the other, I can't lay my hands on these at the moment.

  1. Codex Seraphinianus, by Luigi Serafini: This is a book totally unlike any other I have read about. It is a complete encyclopaedia of a totally imaginary world, filled with rich illustrations and written completely in the script of that world! Pure Art.
You can get an idea of what this book is like by visiting this page or this one.
  2. Practical Common Lisp, by Peter Seibel: The book is available for free online as HTML from the author's site or even as a single PDF from the publisher's site, but I still wish there were an affordable dead-tree version available in India.
  3. Paradigms of Artificial Intelligence Programming: Case Studies in Common Lisp, by Peter Norvig: Many of the people I respect have hailed this book as one of the best in the field of computer programming.
  4. Hacker's Delight, by Henry S. Warren: This is a book widely hailed as a delightful read on computer programming tips on the lines of the famous "HAKMEM" memo of the MIT AI Lab.
  5. Transaction Processing: Concepts and Techniques, by Jim Gray and Andreas Reuter: This is the book for understanding and developing transaction processing systems written by two of the gurus in the field. You really have to put in a lot of effort to guarantee the ACID properties of truly transactional systems and this book tells you just how to go about it.
